Braving rough seas to reach geographically isolated communities, the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) team continues to deliver much-needed technology and learning tools to remote schools across the country. GSIS crossed challenging bodies of water to bring smart TVs, laptops, and other essential equipment to partner schools under its Adopt-a-School Program (ASP).
In Eastern Samar, the GSIS team crossed the Pacific Ocean near the historic island of Homonhon to deliver smart TVs and laptops to Homonhon National High School, bringing vital technology and learning tools to students in one of the country’s remote island communities.
Further expanding its outreach, GSIS also conducted the turnover of technology and learning items to Liponpon Elementary School in Isla Verde, Batangas City. The donations included laptops, printers, smart TVs, electric fans, speakers, and portable energy storage units to improve classroom conditions and enhance access to digital learning. The items were transported via sea ambulance across the Verde Island Passage, a strait connected to the South China Sea. The team then trekked uphill to reach the school located near the top of a mountain.
In addition to these schools, GSIS also turned over educational and technology equipment to Malilipot Central School in Albay and Bacak Elementary School in Catanduanes.
The activities form part of the GSIS ASP, which supports President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s call to improve access to quality education and ensure that no Filipino learner is left behind because of geography or limited resources.
“Hindi dapat hadlangan ng distansya o lokasyon ang pagkakataon ng isang batang Pilipino na magkaroon ng dekalidad na edukasyon. Kung kinakailangang tawirin ang dagat upang makarating ang tulong, gagawin natin ito,” said GSIS President and General Manager Wick Veloso.
The turnover is part of a broader GSIS initiative that will provide ₱12 million worth of technology packages and essential learning equipment to 30 public schools nationwide, particularly those located in underserved and geographically isolated communities.
Under GSIS’s partnership with the Department of Education, each recipient school will receive a ₱400,000 assistance package consisting of information and communications technology equipment, furniture, and appliances tailored to its specific needs.
The program aims to enhance the learning experience of students by supporting both online and face-to-face instruction while helping bridge the digital divide in public schools.
“This is an investment in educational equity and the future of our young learners,” Veloso said. “By bringing digital tools and modern equipment to schools, especially those in remote and underserved communities, we are creating opportunities for students to learn, grow, and succeed.”
ASP is a key component of GSIS’ corporate social responsibility efforts, which also include employee volunteerism through the annual Brigada Eskwela program.
Through the program, GSIS continues to help create better learning spaces for Filipino students and support the development of future generations through quality education.
