NBI Beefs Up Cyber Crime Unit

In line with the modernization of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and in response to increasing complaints and cases of cybercrimes recorded by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), additional Agents have been assigned to the Cyber Crime Division (NBI-CCD).
In a Special Order signed by NBI OIC-Director Eric B. Distor, sixteen (16) newly-trained Agents have been assigned to the Bureau’s CCD to handle complaints filed by private citizens such as identity theft, online scam or fraud, hacking of bank accounts and personal accounts, phishing, cyber libel, forensic accounting and other violations that fall within the ambit of Cyber Crime Prevention Act of 2012. All 16 Agents (CPAs and Lawyers) come from NBI Academy’s Batch 51 “Novus Ilustrado”.
NBI OIC-Director Eric B. Distor said that with the additional Agents, it is expected that complaints lodge before the NBI will be acted upon more expeditiously. Distor also expressed his support and confidence in the passion of the newly-assigned Agent
Distor also said that with the on-going procurement of modern equipment and gadgets aligned with the modernization program of the NBI, the augmentation of Agents to combat cyber criminals has become a necessity.
