Malay, Aklan- A groundbreaking seminar on Nuclear Analytical Techniques Applications was successfully conducted on May 15, 2025, at Malay Elementary School, drawing a diverse audience composed primarily of the schoolโs non-teaching staff and members of the wider community. The event aimed to raise awareness and deepen understanding of nuclear technologies and their peaceful applications in everyday life.
The seminar featured comprehensive lectures on isotope abundance analysis, liquid scintillating spectrometry, gamma metric analysis, and x-ray fluorescence spectrometryโcore techniques used in modern scientific investigations, environmental monitoring, and food safety.
The resource speakers were experts from the Nuclear Analytical Techniques Applications Unit of the Philippine Nuclear Research Institute (PNRI), under the Department of Science and Technology (DOST). Their presentations highlighted how these advanced techniques support national development goals in agriculture, health, and the environment.
The seminar was moderated by Dr. Justine Kalaw and Mr. Bryan Ray S. Solano, Principal of Nabaoy Elementary School, who ensured that the technical topics were accessible and engaging for all participants.
This outreach initiative was facilitated by professors from Aklan State University – Makato Campus, with the support of Rev. Fr. Jayvee Delos Santos of the Sto. Niรฑo Seminary in Numancia, Aklan. Fr. Delos Santos, known for his advocacies on faith and science integration, emphasized the importance of ethical responsibility and environmental stewardship in scientific pursuits.
Participants expressed appreciation for the rare opportunity to learn directly from nuclear scientists and explore how such technologies can positively impact local communities. The event marked a meaningful step in bringing science closer to the grassroots level, fostering informed and empowered citizens.
