LEZO, Aklan- The Electric Cooperatives (ECs) across the region demanded transparency and disclosure from the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) regarding the region-wide power outage which started Thurday, April 27.
In a joint statement issued by all ECs in the region, ECs reiterated that this issue is already the second within this year. It can be recalled that the first system disturbance in the grid was experienced last February 20 affecting the whole region.
On April 29, the Electric Cooperatives Association of Region VI, Inc (ECAR-VI) sent a letter to the NGCP Visayas Operations and Maintenance to shed light on the “system disturbance” and over-voltage affecting the whole region.
In a joint press conference of ILECO 1, 2, and 3 last April 29, they have asserted that NGCP should own up its deficiency and to correct it at the soonest time for the sake of millions of consumers affected across the region.
Electric Coops have become funnels of complaints raised by consumers despite the fact that this incident is beyond their control as NGCP has not provided concrete resolution on the matter.
“We totally understand the plight of our Member-Consumer-Owners. Sa pagka-init sang panahon, nagdungan man ang malawig nga interruption, pero bisan ini indi kontrollado sang mga electric coop, padayon ang aton pag-coordinate sa NGCP para sa nagaka-igo nga aksyon,” GM Shirley S. Laurente, president of ECAR-VI and General Manager of GUIMELCO said in a statement.
Electric Coops and consumers are now hoping for the stabilization of the power supply as NGCP had committed with the LGUs of Iloilo.
