Iloilo City- Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Trenas clarified that former Senator Bam Aquino and his group are welcome to hold a rally in the city and court the votes of Ilonggos.
“The city is open to anyone. The group of former Senator Bam Aquino is welcome in the city to hold a rally,” Trenas said in a radio interview.
As part of the democratic process, he said all candidates must be given a chance to present their advocacies and vision for the country.
“Everyone should be able to bring across their messages and aspirations for the Filipino people,” added Trenas, who invited Aquino, an independent senatorial candidate, to last month’s Dinagyang Festival.
Aquino served as the campaign manager of former Vice President Leni Robredo in the 2022 presidential elections. Robredo secured a decisive victory in Iloilo City with almost 150,000 votes. The former Senator is also a long-time ally of former Senate President Franklin Drilon, a respected political figure in Iloilo.
Aquino is running on the platform of expanding the Free College Law to cover more students ensuring that subsidies for other school expenses under the law are properly funded. He has also committed to push for guaranteed employment for Filipinos.
