Ozamis City- Misamis Occidental is set to become the first province in the country to pilot an advanced kidney disease screening device, offering free early detection to residents at risk of renal complications.

Governor Henry S. Oaminal, along with Misamis Occidental Provincial Hospital (MOPH) Chief of Hospital Dr. Ellen Aseniero and Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) Officer Dr. Holly Tago, recently welcomed Carna Health CEO Dr. Salvatore Giovanni Viscomi, GHCI President Noe Indonto, CEO Romel Cañete, and Newsweek journalist Kelly Elizabeth McCoy for a high-level discussion on the initiative.

The new screening technology, developed by Carna Health, is designed to detect early signs of kidney disease before symptoms manifest, allowing for timely medical intervention. By launching this initiative in Misamis Occidental, the province is taking a proactive step in preventive healthcare, ensuring that more lives can be saved through early detection.

Governor Oaminal emphasized the significance of this partnership, noting that it aligns with his administration’s commitment to accessible and innovative healthcare solutions.

“This is a groundbreaking opportunity for Misamisnons. Early detection can mean the difference between life and death, and we are proud to be at the forefront of this initiative,” he said.

Health officials also highlighted the alarming rise of kidney disease cases in the country, particularly in underserved communities where access to specialized medical care remains limited. With the implementation of this free screening program, thousands of Misamisnons will benefit from early diagnosis, significantly reducing the burden of chronic kidney disease in the province.

The pilot program is expected to roll out in the coming months, with local hospitals and health centers serving as screening hubs. If successful, the initiative may be expanded nationwide, setting a new standard for preventive kidney healthcare in the Philippines.
