Aklan has always had the goods: Boracay’s white sands, the Ati-Atihan Festival, rivers and mountains waiting to be explored, and a culture that makes visitors feel right at home. We’ve even bagged awards at travel fairs and expos for showing off what we have. But here’s the catch—we win the applause, yet sometimes we miss the tourists.
The truth is, travelers today look for the “full package”—easy flights, smooth transfers, a good place to stay, great food, and activities that make the trip worth it. In tourism talk, that’s the 4A’s: accommodation, access, attractions, and amenities. And this is where Aklan has so much room to grow. Imagine if we tied everything together: eco-trips to Libacao, food tours in Kalibo, heritage stops, farm visits, and of course Boracay at the center. Suddenly, we’re not just a gateway—we’re the destination.
There’s also a big chance for MICE tourism—meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions. Kalibo, being the capital town, has what it takes to host conventions and events that could bring visitors all year round. That means more business for hotels, restaurants, and local shops—not just during festivals or peak seasons.
Sure, other places like Bohol and Siargao are catching attention. But that only means Aklan should double down and be creative. We don’t need to copy them—we just need to package what we already have in a way that makes sense for today’s traveler. After all, tourism isn’t just about a one-night concert or a beauty pageant. It’s about giving people reasons to come, stay, and come back again.
The opportunity is wide open. Aklan has the attractions, the heart, and the talent. What’s left is to connect the dots and build the complete experience. If we can do that, then the next time we win awards, we won’t just bring home trophies—we’ll bring home tourists too.
