KALIBO, AKLAN — The Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry Human Resource Development Foundation, Inc. (PCCI HRDF) in partnership with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Aklan Provincial Office has conducted a series of Cyber Hygiene Training sessions, aiming to equip local stakeholders with practical skills to protect their digital presence amid rising online threats.

Ronald So, of the PCCI-HRDF told the Boracay Island News Network that the activity is part of the agency’s ongoing efforts to strengthen cybersecurity awareness, particularly for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and residents increasingly relying on digital tools for transactions and communication.

What the training covered

Participants learned essential topics including:

-Recognizing phishing scams, malware, and social engineering attacks
-Securing business and personal accounts with strong passwords and multi-factor authentication
-Protecting customer data and complying with data privacy standards
-Safe online practices for e-commerce and digital payments
Steps to take when facing cyber incidents

Why this matters

So said that as more Aklanon businesses shift to online operations and digital marketplaces, cyber risks such as fraud, data breaches, and account takeovers have grown more prevalent.

The training aligns with DTI’s broader mandate under the Internet Transactions Act of 2023 (RA 11967) to foster a safe and trusted digital business environment across the country.

“Cyber hygiene is no longer optional—it is essential for every entrepreneur and internet user,” said So.

“These sessions ensure that our MSMEs and communities can fully benefit from digital opportunities without putting their assets or information at risk,” he added.

Moving forward

So said that it continues to roll out similar capacity-building programs in partnership with the PCCI-HRDF, local government units, and business associations, covering more municipalities and sectors in the province in the whole month of July.
