KALIBO, Aklan- With summer temperatures climbing and Holy Week approaching, residents of Kalibo are being urged to follow health advisories to avoid heat-related illnesses. The call comes amid warnings from PAGASA that April temperatures will range between 26°C to 32°C, but could feel as high as 38°C due to high humidity in coastal areas.

Local officials are sounding the alarm as the risk of heat exhaustion, dehydration, and heatstroke increases—especially for senior citizens, children, and individuals with pre-existing health conditions.

Dr. Cynthia Dela Cruz, Vice Mayor of Kalibo and a medical professional, emphasized the need for community-wide vigilance. “This kind of heat is dangerous if we’re not careful,” she said. “We encourage everyone to stay hydrated, avoid direct sunlight during peak hours, and check on vulnerable neighbors and family members.”

The following health precautions are strongly recommended:
• Stay indoors during peak heat hours, typically from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
• Drink plenty of water even before feeling thirsty.
• Wear light, breathable clothing and use hats or umbrellas when going outside.
• Avoid strenuous activity during the hottest times of the day.
• Monitor symptoms of heat stress such as dizziness, headache, rapid heartbeat, and nausea.
• Ensure proper ventilation in homes, especially for the elderly and sick.

Barangay health workers and local volunteers are also being mobilized to help spread awareness and assist those in need during the hot months ahead.

“With Holy Week drawing more people outdoors, we must all do our part to stay safe and informed,” Vice Mayor Dela Cruz added. “Let’s prevent unnecessary illness and protect our community during this time.”

Kalibo residents are advised to stay tuned to updates from PAGASA and the local government for continuing weather forecasts and health bulletins.
