Iloilo City- The Social Security System (SSS) Visayas West 2 Division has intensified its efforts against delinquent employers in Panay Island after it made a string of Run After Contribution Evaders (RACE) operations in the first quarter of the year, reminding business establishments on their legal obligations under the law.
SSS Vice President for Visayas West 2 Division Angelo O. Blancaver reported that SSS branch offices in Iloilo Central, Molo, Roxas, Antique, and Kalibo served written notices to 87 delinquent employers in the region for incurring P4.63 million worth of contribution delinquencies as SSS continues to run after erring employers in the country.
Blancaver said SSS gave these employers 15 days after receiving the violation notices to coordinate with their respective servicing SSS Branch Office and settle their contribution delinquencies to avoid any legal action against them.
โSeveral employers who received the written notices have made initial compliance with the SSS, resulting in collection of about P600,000 worth of past-due SSS contributions and corresponding penalties. About 521 employees will benefit from this compliance because they will now have updated contribution records, making them eligible to avail of SSS benefits and loans in times of need,โ Blancaver explained.
However, Blancaver noted that employers who failed to cooperate with the SSS despite the multiple reminders and violation notices would have to bear the legal consequences of violating Republic Act No. 11199 or the Social Security Act of 2018.
โUnder the law, employers who fail to register their employees or have not deducted and remitted their contributions will be penalized with a fine of P5,000 to P20,000 and face imprisonment ranging from six years and one day to 12 years,โ he said.
He appealed to business owners to be considerate of their employees by reporting them to SSS and regularly remitting their monthly contributions so they can have access to social security protection from SSS.
RA 11199 requires employers to report for coverage to the SSS all their employees within 30 days from their actual employment date and remit the corresponding monthly contributions of their workers.
