Tiny Steps for Environmental Conservation

KALIBO, Aklan- As the famous line of the Philippine National Hero, Dr. Jose Rizal said “the youth is the hope of the fatherland” tells us that the new generation or the youth in today’s world will be the one to continue what the present generation is doing especially in environmental conservation.

And, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in Region 6 gave its full support to any youth involving activities especially the Dalaw Turo to educate the participants

Dalaw Turo, which comes from two Filipino words that mean “to visit” (dalaw) and “to teach” (turo). It is a non-traditional, non-formal and conducts a participatory approach to its audiences to promote awareness and relay messages on environmental conservation.

The Provincial ENR Office of Aklan headed by Provincial ENR Officer Merlene P. Aborka conducted a Communication, Education and Public Awareness (CEPA) through Dalaw Turo among the eighty-five (85) participants from the Child Development Centers (CDGs) of Andagao Baybay, Andagao Centro, Villa Salvacion I and Villa Salvacion II all located at Brgy. Andagao, Kalibo, Aklan on July 18, 2024. This activity was conducted to further enrich the young minds that environmental protection and conservation is a must.

Among the activities were a short interactive lecture, audio visual presentation, and environmental games about the basic functions of land, air, water and wildlife. The participants were also informed about the importance of the mangrove ecosystem since they were residing near the mangrove area.

“We, at the PENRO Aklan, are grateful for the participation of our youths in our Dalaw Turo team. They may be small and young but we believe that they can reach greater heights in the future,” PENRO Aborka said.

“We also commend our Dalaw Turo Team from across the region in bridging the DENR to the public, especially the youths. We have a long way to go but with these tiny steps we can achieve our goal to preserve, conserve and maintain the Environment and Natural Resources for the present and future generations,” said DENR 6 OIC-Regional Executive Director Raul L. Lorilla. /DENR6
