
KALIBO, Aklan- Audrey Azoulay, Director-General of UNESCO, has condemned the killing of journalist Juan Dayang in the city of Kalibo, in Aklan province, Philippines, on 29 April.
Juan “Johnny” Dayang was a veteran journalist and publisher of the Philippines Graphic Magazine, and of the defunct Headline Manila daily newspaper. He also previously headed the Publishers Association of the Philippines Incorporated, and the Manila Overseas Press Club. He was reportedly shot dead through the window of his house by an unidentified gunman.
UNESCO promotes the safety of journalists through global awareness-raising, capacity building and by coordinating the implementation of the UN Plan of Action on the Safety of Journalists and the Issue of Impunity.
