San Jose, Antique- The Department of Science and Technology Region VI (DOST VI) gears up to hold the 2024 Regional Science, Technology, and Innovation Week (RSTW) celebration in Western Visayas in the Antique. This annual science, technology, and innovation (STI) event conducted in partnership with the University of Antique (UA) is set to take place from August 22 to 24, 2024 at the University of Antique Sibalom Campus.
The 2024 RSTW celebration in Western Visayas with the theme, โSiyensya, Teknolohiya at Inobasyon: Kabalikat sa Matatag, Maginhawa at Panatag na Kinabukasanโ will showcase exhibits of various STI programs, projects and research and development (R&D) outputs in the region aimed to propel Western Visayas to a brighter and better future.
Exciting activities are also lined up for the 3-day celebration in Antique targeted to engage participants and visitors across various sectors and age groups. The activities include the national launching of the innovation hubs or iHub, launching of DOST facilities in Antique such as the NatDye Hub of the DOST-Philippine Textile Research Institute (PTRI) and the e-learning hub at the BJMP San Jose District Jail as part of the DOST Community Empowerment for Science and Technology (CEST) program. There are also series of talks and fora targeted to stimulate innovative discussions from the youth, local government representatives, micro, small, and medium enterprises and startup enterprises.
Moreover, the 2024 RSTW in Antique will organize the Techno Tour that will showcase the DOST-supported facilities within UA. This will include a tour in UAโs pottery village, complementary food production facility, the Centralized Analytical Testing Laboratory (CATL), and the bamboo facility.
In conjunction with the 2024 RSTW in Western Visayas is the conduct of the first-ever artificial intelligence or AI Hackathon in the region. The Western Visayas AI Hackathon will bring together 50 college students who are developers, data scientists, and AI enthusiasts from various schools in Western Visayas to collaboratively solve real-world problems using AI technologies. It will bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application, providing student participants with hands-on experience and the opportunity to showcase their skills.
The 2024 RSTW in Antique demonstrates DOST VI’s unwavering commitment to its mandate. By providing central direction and leadership in scientific and technological endeavors, DOST VI ensures that the technologies, advancements, talents, and skills showcased during the event translate into tangible economic and social benefits for the people of Western Visayas.
