Manny Pacquiao Statement on the Killing of Veteran Journalist Johnny Dayang

I condemn in the strongest terms the brutal and senseless killing of veteran journalist Johnny Dayang. His death is not only a tragedy, it is a direct attack on our freedom, our democracy, and our right to the truth.

Johnny Dayang was not just a journalist. He was a warrior of truth who used his voice to hold power accountable and to stand up for those who could not stand up for themselves. His murder is a painful reminder that those who speak the truth are being silenced.

To his family, I extend my deepest sympathies. I know that no words can ease the pain, but please know that the nation mourns with you. We will not let his voice be forgotten.

To the media community, I stand beside you. The killing of a journalist is a threat to every Filipinoโ€™s freedom. We cannot allow fear, threats, or bullets to control us. Journalists are not the enemy, they are the bridge between the people and the truth.

I call on law enforcement and our justice system to act fast and without fear. Deliver justice. Show that in the Philippines, the killers of truth will not go free.

I am in solidarity with the media community, ready to protect the rights of the people, especially the powerless. I will fight with every Filipinos to protect journalists and push for tougher penalties for those who attack them, and pledge support for press freedom.

I may have come from poverty, but I will never allow our nation to be poor in truth, poor in justice, or poor in freedom.

We may not always agree, and thatโ€™s okay. But even in our disagreements, we must respect one anotherโ€™s right to speak.

Especially now, as we approach the elections, we must protect those who seek and speak the truth, no matter what political color or partisan we wear.

Life is sacred. No one deserves to die for doing their job, especially those who carry the burden of truth for the people.

This fight for justice is not just mine, it is ours. Let us stand together. Let us protect the truth. Let us fight backโ€”with courage, with unity, and with faith in our democracy.
