First and foremost, that man is depressed. He does not even know what he wants to doโhe is undecided if he will put an end to his life. Yes, he is dangerous because he has a knife and he is also endangering the people trying to help him. It does not mean that he is ungrateful to those helping him, but as someone who is contemplating suicide, he is a complete mess.
In different Facebook Live videos, some were commenting for the man to jump already so that they could eat their lunch. Others who were in the vicinity were inciting him to meet his death.
This is a classic example of the hypocrisy and idiosyncrasy of what kind of human beings we are.
In truth, we are all lonely individuals yearning to be understood, to find our people and be accepted, and to be loved with all our frailties and shortcomings. That the ultimate goal of living is validating we exist for a reason and that our life matters.
How easy for others to judge someone who is depressed and throw vile remarks.
We each have our problems to deal with, and our everyday burdens to carry albeit how heavy. What could be considered grave to another may be facile for someone else but it neither undermines its gravity nor expunges its relevance.
No one has the right to judge another. Not in any aspect. Not in such a life-threatening situation.
Some of us try to muster as much courage as we can before finally breaking down. We try to suppress our emotions because we do not want to appear weak in the eyes of others. We do our best to survive the day, no matter how trivial, how heavy, or how heartbreaking it has been for us.
When we reach our breaking point, it means we have had enough. It means we have suffered too much, pushing us to the brink of self-destruction.
When we reach the moment of being wretchedly inadequate, consummately discouraged, and utterly hopelessโthat is the time that we need saving.
May this serve as a reminder for all of us to be kind to everyone we meet, to check on the people we love, and to replenish ourselves with everything good, happy, and healthy.
I pray that this man will choose to live and I pray that people will be more compassionate to others.
