It is with profound sadness and shock that I learned of the tragic death of Mr. Juan P. Dayang. The senseless and brutal manner of his passing deeply grieves not only his family and friends, but the entire province of Aklan and the nation.
Tatay Johnny was more than a veteran journalist; he was a pillar of our community, a respected leader, and a dedicated public servant. His decades-long career left an indelible mark on Philippine journalism, shaping the landscape of media and advocating for press freedom. His contributions to Aklan Press Club, Publishers Association of the Philippines, the Manila Overseas Press Club, National Press Club, Federation of Provincial Press Clubs of the Philippines, and numerous other organizations speak volumes of his unwavering commitment and passion. His service as Mayor of Kalibo further demonstrated his dedication to the betterment of our province.
The circumstances surrounding his death are deeply disturbing, and I assure the public that the Aklan Provincial Government is working together with the law enforcement in their investigation. We demand a swift and thorough investigation to bring those responsible to justice. No stone will be left unturned in our pursuit of accountability.
The loss of Mr. Dayang is immeasurable. His legacy of integrity, courage, and unwavering dedication to truth will continue to inspire us. On behalf of the people of Aklan, I extend my deepest condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time. We stand with you in mourning this irreplaceable loss. Let us all honor his memory by upholding the values he championed: truth, justice, and service to the community.

As Mayor of Kalibo, I have always seen every Kalibonhon as a familyโ€”people I vowed to serve and protect through triumph and adversity. My duty and moral obligation is to uphold peace, prevent crime, and ensure justice for those wronged.
The tragic and brutal killing of Sir Johnny Dayang, a respected media icon and public servant, is a devastating loss to his loved ones and the entire Kalibonhon community and beyond. Sir Johnny was a voice of truth, a pillar of public discourse, and a man who dedicated his life to service and integrity. That he was gunned down in the sanctity of his own home is an affront to the values we hold dear as a peaceful and justice-seeking society.
This was not only a heinous crime against one man, but a threat to our entire Kalibonhon community. I strongly condemn this vile act of violence and will ensure it does not go unanswered. In full coordination with the Philippine National Police, we are taking all necessary steps to ensure that justice is served swiftly and that the perpetrators are held accountable. Our local law enforcement agencies are working around the clock, and we are doing everything in our power to maintain peace and order for every Kalibonhon.
I grieve with you, I stand with you, and I will never tolerate violence in our community. Together, we will pursue justice and honor Sir Johnnyโ€™s legacyโ€”not with fear, but with firm determination to protect our people and uphold the peace he deeply valued.
-Kalibo Mayor Juris Bautista Sucro
