
Hong Kong, SAR – The Philippine Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) expressed its deepest sympathiesโon behalf of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.โto the families of Hong Kong residents and overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who lost their lives and were severely affected in the tragic Tai Po fire. DMW Secretary Hans Leo J. Cacdac also sincerely thanked the Hong Kong government through its Labour and Welfare Department, headed by Minister Chris Sun, for their quick and coordinated response to OFWs, including locating and accounting for workers deemed safe, providing welfare assistance and access to shelters, inquiry counters, and community centers, and helping those who lost important documents in the fire.
Secretary Cacdac confirmed that the only Filipino who died has received full assistance and that preparations for repatriating her remains are underway. He also mentioned that the critically injured Filipino workerโinitially in the ICUโhad a successful medical procedure and is now stable and recovering.
Meanwhile, OFW survivors continue to receive support, including document replacement, counseling, shelter access, and welfare assistance for both the injured and their families.
