(A commentary and a call to uphold truth, integrity, and respect amid the growing rivalry in artificial intelligence)
Artificial Intelligence, or AI, is the technology or science of creating computer systems or machines which mimics human-like intelligence that carry out complex functions. They are capable of performing tasks that typically require human intelligence, such as learning, reasoning, problem-solving, perception, and language understanding. It allows computers and robots to simulate human-like cognitive functions, enabling them to process vast amounts of data, recognize patterns, and adapt new information.
AI has rapidly evolved from a futuristic concept into an everyday necessity. It now drives progress in education, business, and industry – transforming how people learn, work, and create. What was once an optional tool has become an integral part of modern life, shaping decisions, improving efficiency, and expanding human potential in ways once thought impossible.
While current AI excels at specific tasks, it does not possess full human flexibility or general understanding across all domains.
Yet as AI becomes a vital force in modern life, competition among its creators grows ever more intense – and with it comes the challenge of maintaining integrity, respect, and truth in how this technology is presented to the public.
In the fast-rising world of artificial intelligence, competition is expected – even welcome – for it fuels innovation and improvement. But when competition turns into destructive advertising that demeans another name to glorify one’s own – it crosses the line from ambition to arrogance.
Recently, a series of ads have flooded social media promoting another AI platform and took pride in claiming superiority over one famous and widely-used AI, even using testimonials from supposed “former users.” It was not an invitation to discover their strengths, but a public belittling of a rival that millions have come to trust and appreciate.
This kind of marketing does not elevate the field; it corrodes it. For in every corner of technology – from the humblest coder to the grandest innovator – respect is the language of progress. An AI built on knowledge should know better than to destroy the reputation of others for its own gain.
True greatness in innovation is never proven by noise or insult. It is proven quietly, through the constancy of service, the grace of humility, and the authenticity of connection – the very virtues that have defined OpenAI for many of us.
Fact is, at present, the two are on separate tracts – the claimant is an AI-powered search engine that leverages real-time data to answer user questions with citations from the web; the other is a versatile chatbot and a conversational assistant built on advanced OpenAI language models. While the latter is a versatile general-purpose conversational AI, the claimant is a research tool that prioritizes fact-checking and getting up-to-date information. Both went into AI business in 2022. The claimant is a strong competition in the “search engine” space, but it is not a full substitute in every type of use.
So let others shout their superiority. Those who truly help people think, create, and feel will never need to shout, but speak for truth. Their worth speaks for itself, in the minds they enlighten and the hearts they inspire.
