Residents in Pandan, Antique map out community needs with DOST’s CEST program

Pandan, Antique- The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Antique brought together community members of Barangay Mag-aba in Pandan Antique to map out local solutions and strengthen community-led development through the Community Empowerment through Science and Technology (CEST) Program, conducted the Community Life Competence Process (CLCP) with Gender Sensitivity Training.

Members of the community from different sectors, including senior citizens, students, out-of-school youth, fisherfolk, farmers, women and homemakers, LGBTQIA+ individuals, and persons with disabilities, along with personnel from DOST Antique, were present during the activity. Their participation reflected the diversity of the community and highlighted the importance of ensuring that every voice is heard in identifying local concerns, recognizing existing strengths, and working toward collective solutions.

Through the CLCP, participants were encouraged to look at their community not only through its challenges but also through the strengths, experiences, resources, and capabilities that are already present. The process provided a safe and inclusive space for community members to share their experiences, identify issues affecting their community, and explore ways to strengthen their collective capacity to address these challenges. It served as a venue for community dialogue, reflection, and empowerment and encouraged participants to recognize that meaningful development begins when people come together, understand their situation, build on their strengths, and take collective action.

The activity also incorporated gender sensitivity training, which emphasized the importance of understanding gender roles, promoting equal opportunities, respecting individual differences, and ensuring the meaningful participation of all community members regardless of gender, age, or personal circumstances.

Through initiatives such as CLCP, DOST Antique continues to strengthen its partnership with communities and local stakeholders, helping create opportunities where science, technology, and innovation can respond to real community needs and contribute to inclusive and sustainable development.
