‘Star Studded’ Visayas ICT Confab in Boracay

BORACAY Island, Aklan A ‘Star-Studded’ confab on the promotion of ICT in the Visayas region is currently being prepared in Boracay for a two-day meeting to be held on this resort island.

Gabrielle Calizo-Quimpo, executive director of the Aklan ICT Council, said the province plays host to this year’s VICTOR (Visayas ICT Organization) on August 26-27 at La Carmela Boracay. 

\This was announced during the quarterly meeting of the Aklan ICT Council held on Thursday at the Conference Hall of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan.

“This is star-studded because almost all of the Philippine stars in the field of ICT are expected to grace this event.The province of Aklan has been considered by the Department of Information, Communication, and Technology (DICT) as the next big thing for the ICT industry,” said Quimpo, a former congresswoman of Aklan.

The Visayas Leg is also supported by the National ICT Confederation of the Philippines. Now on its 10th year, its theme is Visayas Digital Decade of Vision to coincide with the event is the seventh Visayas Creative Congress on August 26.

Start slideshow Among the topics that are initially being prepared were: Government Institutional Support and Fiscal Incentives for the IT-BPM Industry; Strategies to Brave the Pandemic to reach new heights and adapt to working from home or hybrid models; Mainstreaming Digital Skills into Non-Formal Education; Ensuring Digital Skills-Blockchain, Cybersecurity, Cloud Technology and Data Analytics, Development of Local Digital Innovation and Setting the Ideal Business Climate Standards.

Those expected to attend the said event were newly appointed DICT Secretary Ivan John Enrile Uy, Jonathan Defensor De Luzuriaga, President of the Philippine Software Industry Association and Lord Commander of the Spring Valley based in Negros Occidental, DICT Undersecretary Jocelle Batapa-Sigue, and Mary JJoy Abueg, president of the Palawan ICT Council, among others.

This is the second time that Aklan will play host to the VICTOR Congress. The first one was held in 2018 at the Sampaguita Gardens in New Washington.
