Boracay Island- Behind every iconic Boracay sandcastle is not just a beautiful work of artโ€”but a story of hard work, dignity, and sustainable livelihood.
For many years, the members of the Boracay Sandcastle Makers Association have been creating unforgettable memories for our visitors through their handcrafted sandcastles. What may seem like a simple photo opportunity actually represents hours of dedication, creativity, and teamwork by local residents who depend on this craft to support their families.
The โ‚ฑ20โ€“โ‚ฑ50 photo fee is not merely a payment for a pictureโ€”it is a meaningful contribution to the livelihood of Boracayโ€™s local community. Every peso helps sustain families, preserve a unique cultural tradition, and strengthen the islandโ€™s local economy.
As part of the Municipality of Malayโ€™s commitment to sustainable tourism, this activity is regulated under Municipal Ordinance No. 505, ensuring that sandcastle building is conducted responsibly and in harmony with environmental protection. The ordinance safeguards our beaches while providing a legitimate and regulated source of income for our local sand artists.
This is sustainable tourism in actionโ€”where environmental conservation, cultural preservation, and inclusive economic opportunities go hand in hand. By supporting our accredited sandcastle makers, every visitor becomes part of a tourism model that benefits not only tourists but also the people who call Boracay home.
Let us continue to support our local tourism stakeholders and recognize that every photo beside a Boracay sandcastle is more than a souvenirโ€”it is an investment in a familyโ€™s livelihood, a celebration of local artistry, and a contribution to the sustainable future of our world-renowned island.
Together, let us build a Boracay where tourism creates opportunities, empowers communities, and leaves no one behind. Kudos to Pres. Demps MP
