Iloilo City- Due to the eruption of Mount Kanlaon, the DSWD Field Office VI has activated three clusters under the Disaster Response and Early Recovery Pillar namely Internally Displaced Persons Protection (IDPs), Food and Non-Food Items, and Camp Coordination and Camp Management.
“We want the affected families to know that DSWD is with them in this difficult time. We will provide Family Food Packs as well as Non-Food Items that they need by providing augmentation to the resources of Local Government Units,” said Regional Director Arwin Razo, following the eruption of Kanlaon at around 3 pm of Monday, December 9, 2024.
Aside from this, the DSWD Field Office VI has activated its Quick Response team (QRT) to ensure speedy and systematic response operations for the affected families due to Kanlaon eruption.
“We are continuously coordinating with the LGUs in the area so we are able to help them,” said Director Razo.
Prior the eruption, the DSWD in Western Visayas has already made an accounting of Food and Non-Food Items in areas surrounding Kanlaon. Coordination meetings with the Regional Disaster Risk Management Council were also held.
Meanwhile, Camp Coordination and Camp Management teams from LGUs were already deployed in the areas to help the affected families.
In a related report, OCD6 Regional Director Raul E. Fernandez presides the emergency virtual meeting highlighting updates from LGU La Castellana.

An estimated 46,900 individuals will be affected within the four to six kilometer area with Brgy. Sag-ang, La Castellana as the main focus since the wind direction is going on the Western section.
Disaster Response Management Development (DRMD) staff will be deployed tonight in Negros Occidental to provide necessary intervention.
The agency is also deploying its Mobile Command Center, which is equipped with state-of-the art information and communications technology (ICT) equipment, to bridge the communication gap in disaster or emergency operations by providing linkage from the disaster-stricken area to the Regional Operations Center (ROC), Disaster Response Command Center (DRCC), or the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council.
Also in attendance are DRMD Chief Erlyn L. Garcia and the rest of Disaster Response Management Division staff./dswd6/Joy Ann Catherine A. Salbibia
